  Took a shot in the dark at staying here, and to visit Rockford: we always drive through the city to get somewhere else. Loved our hotel: friendly staff, best hotel swimming pool area I have ever experienced: lots of windows, warm water, large shallow area, plus a deep (9') area. My wife (from the Caribbean, so she needs warm water!) and my 3-year old and 8-year old and I enjoyed it immensely. Also, our room was very quiet: even though we stayed in rooms near the front of the hotel, I heard zero road noise. Oh: and we had a fridge and a microwave, and plenty of pillows! Recently I spent almost $200 a night at the Hilton in Omaha, and did not have a fridge or microwave in my room, and their pool was small, cold water, and no exterior windows. We will be back to Rockford, and we will be bringing our friends with kids just so we can enjoy this hotel swimming pool, the excellent nearby Mexican and Thai restaurants, and my favorite children's museum in the Midwest. I recommend the Howard Johnson in Rockford as a great deal.
