  As you may or may not know, one of my dearest friends, Mary (in my profile pic), is in the last weeks of her losing battle with colorectal cancer. As you can imagine this has been shockingly devastating for her, her family, and all of those who love her. As she has been spending the rest of her time at home with her family the only somewhat comfortable place for her is her recliner which needed to be replaced so they went shopping for one yesterday in Rockford to try to make her as comfortable as possible. This is what happened on that shopping trip. I will NEVER shop at Slumberland again and I WILL be calling their corporate office today to tell them what I think of their GM, Wade!

  I’m just gonna start off saying that I have never pulled the cancer card while trying to buy something. Today, was a first. I needed a new recliner that has good lumbar support since I spend 90% of my day in a recliner. Lathe took me with to help pick one that will best work for me. We went to Slumberland. Tried out almost all the chairs and found a great option. Lathe pulled the salesman aside and asked if there was any chance we could buy the floor model due to my situation, which he explained to the salesman. He doesn’t want me to suffer any unnecessary days being I don’t have a lot of time. The salesman said they had one in a nearby warehouse that he could possibly swap out with the one in the store by Friday but would need to contact his GM first. Needless to say, the GM said No, that I would have to wait until Friday. The salesman was very apologetic, but apologies aren’t very useful. So, we left and decided to try out Gustafson’s furniture store. We ask the salesman to see the recliners with lumbar support and he helps us out right away. We then ask if there is a chance we can purchase a floor model and he says “Absolutely, we can probably even get some money off the price.” Well, I found a chair. Even nicer than the one at Slumberland, but about $300 more. Lathe didn’t care, he just wants me comfortable. While I remain chilling in the chair, Lathe mentioned to the salesman my need for the chair and why he wants it right away. The guy said he would see what he could do but felt he could definitely do better on the price. He came back 10 mins later and the price was down within $30 of the chair at Slumberland. We paid and left with the new chair 15 mins later.
  
  I am really upset about how we were treated at Slumberland. We have been loyal customers of theirs for years. Not anymore. I just feel the GM was a bit heartless in his decision. We weren’t trying to get a discount, just a chair that could make a terminal cancer patient as comfortable as possible.
